Open Haven Ltd is governed by a Board of Directors with extensive experience and a diverse skillset. The Board responsible for the overall governance, management and strategic direction of the organisation. Open Haven’s Board Members for 2021 are:

RICK ALLSOPP

CHAIRPERSON & DIRECTOR
June 2017 - CURRENT

As Chairperson of the Board, Rick is responsible for governance and oversight of the organsiation and provides mentoring and guidance to the CEO.

Rick has 10 years of experience in Executive positions in financial services and government in Australia and Singapore. He is married with three children and has been volunteering for non-profit organisations for over 20 years.

Rick has extensive program and portfolio governance experience with a focus on risk management. Rick’s qualifications include a BSc (Applied Mathematics and Statistics) and a post-graduate degree in Project Management.

SABEEL BURGESS

DIRECTOR & CEO
June 2017 - CURRENT

As CEO, Sabeel is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the business. 

Sabeel Burgess is a former high school teacher with 20 years of teaching experience in the UK. She is married with two young children. Sabeel has successfully run an English department at a Further Education college managing a group of 10 teaching staff. Sabeel’s qualifications include a BA Honours degree in History and Performing Arts, a post-graduate degree in teaching. She also has a post-graduate degree in Applied Linguistics.

Sabeel has successfully trained and assessed student teachers and liaised with social services and child protection agencies regarding teenagers in her care at school. She has taught in a borstal in Milton Keynes for teenage perpetrators of serious crimes. She holds a passion for advocacy and empowering women.

Sabeel has volunteered extensively in orphanages in Cluj Napoca in Romania and helped with the rehabilitation of the children and in the training of staff members to meet specified standards.

Sabeel enjoys public speaking and has delivered presentations at both Churchie (Anglican Church Grammar School) and the Mount Gravatt TAFE on the topic of domestic violence and respect.

JULIE WILLIAMS

DIRECTOR & COMPANY SECRETARY

As a Board Member, Julie is responsible for governance and oversight of the organisation and provides mentoring and guidance to the CEO.

Julie is formerly the Pastor of New Heart Church, Balmoral campus, and possesses many years’ experience in Christian Ministry and supporting women in crisis. In addition, she has is a qualified coach and counselor.  She is also the founder of Women Motivating Women, a series of quarterly breakfast gatherings with key speakers sharing their professional and personal journeys

DR JONATHAN LEITCH

DIRECTOR
June 2019 - CURRENT

As a Board Member, Jonathan is responsible for governance and oversight of the organisation and provides mentoring and guidance to the CEO.

Jonathan is a medical practitioner (GP) and is currently the Senior Medical Officer of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health service. He has undergraduate qualifications in psychology (Bachelor of Science) and medicine and a post-graduate master’s degree in public health and Tropical Medicine. He worked in rural and remote Queensland hospitals for 5 years after graduating and then completed training as a GP in 2007. His current role is responsible for clinical governance and service planning of health services including primary health, social health, and residential aged care. He has also served almost 2 years as a Board member of Hepatitis Queensland and is currently the Deputy Chair. He has experience in direct service delivery as a health care provider, management of health services, quality improvement/assurance, and governance/strategic planning. Jonathan enjoys time with his family, playing in the church band, and keeping fit playing soccer.

ROSE BERNARDO

DIRECTOR

Rose is a sales, marketing, and communications consultant with more than 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, and communications across the Asia-Pacific region. She has managed key relationships with both corporate & not-for-profit clients, including Pepsi, McCormick, Hollard Financial Services, and the Every Nation Church and Ministries.

Rose holds a Bachelor’s degree in mass communications and is skilled in direct sales, multi-channel marketing, social media, below-the-line advertising, and brand development.

A wife and mother to four beautiful children, Rose enjoys bush walks, high teas, and a variety of experiences in between. She has extensive Christian ministry experience spanning 20 years and two continents, having led youth & campus ministry, and children’s programs in Sydney, Manila, and Brisbane.
